Missions & Objectives

The Electronic Workshop offers the following services:

  • Guidance in the selection of new instruments, installation and commissioning, training of operators.

  • Advice concerning measuring methods for research, modifications and interfacing instruments from different manufacturers, assembly of measuring systems.

  • Design and production of single purpose instruments for research.

  • Diagnosis of technical problems, repairing faulty instruments, preventive and corrective maintenance.

  • Advice regarding external service contracts (estimation of workload, evaluation of cost).

  • Advice regarding selection and purchase of essential spare parts, coordination with other departments.

  • Demonstration of instruments during practical classes, explaining principles and Teaching students how to operate instruments.

  • Periodical electrical safety inspections and correction of ascertained problems.

  • Training of junior technical staff

  • Checking equipments in all departments before approving for discard

Other main duties were:

  • Completing laboratory equipment’s stock

  • Completing stock of electronic components

  • Installation of new equipment

  • Support with reinstallation of various equipment in other departments

  • Support of teaching activities

  • Support of research work

The Mechanical Workshop offers following services:

  • Mechanical repairs of faculty instruments for teaching and research.

  • Mechanical modification and adaptation of instruments according to needs of research.

  • Mechanical design and production of simple purpose instruments for teaching and research.

  • Consultations concerning mechanical qualities of new instruments and equipment planned for other departments.

  • Manufacturing of metal and plastic parts according to the delivered drawings or models. (Note: No facilities for glass working or glass blowing).

  • Installation of new instruments and helping companies with installations.

  • Cooperation with Maintenance and Engineering Department.

  • Preventive maintenance of mechanical instruments and systems.

Other main duties were:

  • Completing workshop equipment stock

  • Completing the stock of the mechanical material

  • Completing necessary tool

  • Support with installation and reinstallation of various equipment`s in other departments

  • Covering of biomechanical needs combined with teaching and research activities in another departments

Obstacles to meeting these objectives:

A stock of general use electronic components is important and necessary for servicing of existing instrumentation and for designing of new instruments, especially to the needs of teaching and research programs. Such a stock needs continuous replenishment and updating with new components.

Taking over the maintenance of some instruments from local companies bring savings to the university but causes loses to companies, who consequently are reluctant to cooperate. It would greatly improve efficiency of instruments utilization (financial savings, better maintenance) to request simultaneously with the purchase order for the new equipment:

  1. Service manuals and simple purpose tools

  2. Stock of spare parts

  3. Estimation of costs of service contracts

Current developments:

Both the Electronic and Mechanical Workshop are fully encompassed in the departmental educational and scientific activities.
