 College of Medicine

The College of Medicine was established at Kuwait University by an Amiri decree issued in 1973. The first patch was admitted to the College in 1976 and graduated in 1983. The College of Medicine has developed a systematic plan to develop the educational process by making major changes to the curricula to comply with global requirements and to keep pace with the successive scientific leaps that the world is witnessing. These curricula are continuously evaluated and updated to suit international standards. The College of Medicine has been keen to stimulate scientific research by activating a number of postgraduate study programs to cope with the needs of the labor market and encourage researchers to publish their papers by organizing the annual Scientific Poster Day Conference in which members of the academic staff, doctors and students from inside and outside Kuwait participate by presenting their research in various medical fields. These tireless efforts culminated in the College of Medicine receiving the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Medical Sciences Award as the best educational institution for medical sciences in the Arab world in 2012. The College of Medicine relies on an integrated teaching system (merging basic medical sciences with clinical sciences) during the years of medical education (Bachelor of Basic Medical Sciences stage and Medical Doctor (M.D.) stage) with an early interdisciplinary clinical education system, using Problem-Based Learning sessions (PBLs), clinical training, and clinical skills laboratories, in addition to its role in educating all students of the College of Dentistry during the stage of the Bachelor of Basic Medical Sciences, and first-year students in the College of Pharmacy.

Keeping the track of excellence, recently the College of Medicine has reaped the fruits of its efforts by obtaining full academic accreditation from the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs (TEPDAD), which is recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) as an accrediting body for medical education. The academic accreditation of the College of Medicine is a global trend and one of the requirements that must be met. It reflects confidence in the college so that graduate doctors can complete postgraduate studies in America and Canada, which is what the college aspires to realize the vision of the State of Kuwait in improving the level of healthcare and elevating the clinical expertise. Also, this would raise the global ranking of Kuwait University by the international ranking institutions. The College of Medicine keeps up its impressive advancement by graduating batches of Physicians with expertise in a wide range of clinical and medical sciences enabling them to provide their medical services to the society efficiently and professionally.
