INTRODUCTION
The Electron Microscopy Unit (EMU) of the Faculty of Medicine is an independent body of the Health Sciences Center, under the administration of the Vice-Dean for Research and Postgraduate Studies, that functions with a member of the Academic staff as the Director. Two experienced EM technologists provide reliable technical support and assist in daily operations at the Unit. The main intention of providing EM services is to support basic science and clinical research at various levels in the Health Sciences Center. This covers undergraduate, graduate, PhD and academic staff research. Furthermore, the unit provides support to diagnostic services to the Ministry of Health in areas that include renal, muscular, storage and ciliary genetic disorders. The unit is equipped with some of the latest, highly sophisticated and expensive Transmission Electron Microscopes, Scanning Electron Microscope, ultra-microtomes, image analysis system, Gold and Carbon sputter coater and other such equipment that are required for the Electron Microscopy preparations.
